You can tell the truth without tearing someone down
When a friendship feels tense, Jesus can help you speak honestly with kindness instead of reacting from hurt.
Friendship can get tense fast. A message lands wrong, you feel hurt, and suddenly you want your reply to make the other person feel exactly what you feel.
You can tell the truth without tearing someone down.
“Speaking the truth in love...” — Ephesians 4:15 (NIV)
Read Ephesians 4:15 on Bible.com.
Truth matters. So does love. Jesus does not ask you to pretend nothing happened, but he also does not need you to use honesty as a weapon. You can name what hurt, listen for what you may not know, and leave room for the other person to be more than their worst moment.
Before you answer a difficult text today, take two minutes. Write three words: true, kind, needed. Then ask: “Does my reply say what is true, carry kindness, and actually need to be said right now?” You can wait if it does not.
Jesus, help me speak honestly without trying to punish anyone. Give me words that are true, kind, and useful. Amen.
