Be quick to listen and slow to react

When emotions spike, God can help you pause before you react.

Be quick to listen and slow to react

Be quick to listen and slow to react.

Sometimes one text, one comment, or one awkward moment can flip your whole mood. You want to clap back, shut down, or say the first thing that comes to mind.

But Scripture says, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry" (James 1:19, NIV). That is not weakness. That is strength with self-control.

A pause can protect a friendship, a conversation, or even your own peace. You do not have to let your first reaction lead your whole day. God can help you slow down enough to respond with wisdom instead of impulse.

What situation has been making you react too fast lately?

Tiny step: Before you answer one message today, wait thirty seconds and pray, "Jesus, help me respond, not just react."

Prayer: Jesus, when my emotions jump fast, help me slow down and listen well. Give me wisdom, self-control, and peace in my words today. Amen.

James 1:19 (NIV)
