Messing up can make you want to disappear. Maybe you said the thing, clicked the thing, lied about the thing, or acted like you were fine when you were not. Shame tells you to hide until you somehow become better.
God invites you to come into the light instead.
1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (NIV). Confession is not you begging God to stop loving you less. It is telling the truth to the God who already knows and still makes a way back.
God is not asking you to hide the truth from Him before you come close. You can be honest, receive forgiveness, and take the next faithful step.
