Being Responsible Does Not Mean Saying Yes to Everything Tonight

When your Sunday night list feels endless, Luke 10:41-42 helps you choose one faithful yes instead of carrying every responsibility at once.

A softly lit quiet room with open space for rest and reflection

You are staring at the Sunday-night list: answer the message, finish the work, plan the week, make the decision, be available for everyone. You are tired, but responsibility keeps sounding like one more yes.

Jesus meets that pressure in a crowded home. Martha is doing real work, but her work has begun to rule her attention. When she asks Jesus to correct Mary, he answers gently: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.” — Luke 10:41-42

The faithful choice is not always the largest or most impressive task. Sometimes it is refusing to let every good request become your assignment tonight. You can care about your work, your relationships, and your future without pretending you have unlimited strength.

One tiny step

Take two minutes and write down every task pulling at you. Circle one thing that is truly yours for today. Do that one next; postpone, decline, or release the rest without explaining yourself to everyone.

Tomorrow, let Scripture help you tell the difference between faithful work and anxious over-responsibility.

Lord Jesus, quiet the many demands competing for my attention. Show me the one faithful yes for today, and give me courage to leave the rest with you. Amen.
