You Can Pause Before Your Anger Chooses Your Next Words

Anger may be real, but it does not have to become your response. Psalm 4:4 offers a faithful pause before you speak or act.

A quiet path in soft morning light, suggesting a pause before taking the next step

Anger can be honest without being in charge.

Today's meditation

“Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.” — Psalm 4:4

You do not have to pretend that the message, meeting, or conversation did not hurt. But you also do not have to answer while your anger is holding the microphone.

God gives you room to notice what is happening inside you. A pause is not weakness or avoidance. It can be the small space where you stop handing your next words to the emotion of the moment.

One tiny step

Before replying today, put your phone down for two minutes. Name the feeling in one sentence: “I am angry because __.” Then ask Jesus for a response that is true and clean. Reply only after the pause.

Lord, meet me in the space between feeling and reacting. Teach me to be honest without causing harm. Amen.
