You don’t have to solve everything before you pray

You don’t have to solve everything before you pray

You don’t have to solve everything before you pray.

Today’s Scripture

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

Most of us don’t refuse to pray. We just postpone it.

We tell ourselves: “Let me think it through first.” “Let me calm down first.” “Let me get my life together first.”

But the invitation in Scripture isn’t: get stable, then come. It’s: come, and let God steady you.

Prayer isn’t the reward for having your emotions under control. It’s the place where you hand your emotions to the One who does.

Tiny step (≤2 minutes)

Right now, do this:

  1. Take one slow breath.
  2. Say out loud: “God, here’s what I’m carrying.”
  3. Name one specific thing (one sentence).
  4. Add: “I’m bringing this to You first, not last.”

Optional: read Philippians 4:6 one more time.

Short prayer

Father, I keep waiting until I’m ‘ready’ to pray. Teach me to come to You as I am. Hold what I can’t hold, and give me peace that guards my heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, amen.
