Draw near to God before you try to fix everything

When your mind wants to solve the whole day at once, start by moving one step closer to God.

A calm still-life of an open Bible beside a small candle and a blank notebook in soft morning light.

Draw near to God before you try to fix everything.

Some mornings you wake up and your brain immediately opens ten tabs: money, deadlines, texts you haven’t answered, the one decision you keep avoiding.

But God doesn’t ask you to sprint into control. He invites you to come close.

Today’s meditation material (Scripture)

Notice the order: come near—then God comes near. Not after you get your schedule together. Not after you prove you’re disciplined. Nearness is the starting line.

When you feel scattered, you don’t need a perfect plan first. You need presence.

Reflection question: What’s the first thing you try to control today—and what would it look like to bring that to God instead?

Tiny step (≤2 minutes)

  • Sit still for 30 seconds and place both feet on the floor.
  • Open your hands (literally) as a way of saying “I’m not holding this alone.”
  • Read James 4:8 out loud once.
  • Whisper: “God, I’m drawing near.”

Prayer (optional)

Father, I’m tempted to manage my life with anxiety. Draw me close today. Help me start with You—Your presence, Your love, Your wisdom—before I start trying to fix everything. Amen.
