God's peace can calm your storm
When everything feels like it's spinning out of control—tests piling up, friend drama, family tension—it's easy to feel like you're in the middle of a storm.
Jesus' disciples knew that feeling. One night, a violent storm hit their boat while Jesus was sleeping. They woke him up, terrified, saying, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" (Mark 4:35-41)
God's peace isn't the absence of storms—it's His presence in the middle of them.
The disciples had Jesus right there in the boat with them, but they still panicked. Sometimes we do the same thing. We know God is with us, but when the waves get high, we forget who's in control.
Jesus didn't prevent the storm from coming. He let them experience it. But He was there to calm it when they called on Him.
Today's meditation
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." — John 14:27 (Bible.com)
Jesus' peace is different from what the world offers. The world's peace depends on circumstances going well. Jesus' peace works even when everything is falling apart.
One tiny step (≤2 minutes)
When you feel anxiety rising today, pause for 60 seconds. Close your eyes if you can. Breathe slowly and say quietly: "Jesus, You're in this boat with me. I trust You with this storm."
Short prayer
Jesus, thank You that You're not distant from my storms. You're right here in the boat with me. Help me remember Your presence when I start to panic. Give me Your peace that works even when nothing makes sense. Amen.
