Ask God for wisdom—then take the next step

When you don’t know what to do, you don’t have to guess alone. God promises wisdom when you ask—so pray simply, then take one small ‘next right’ step today.

Some choices feel huge. And when you’re not sure what’s right, your brain can start spiraling: What if I mess this up?

God doesn’t tell you to figure it out alone.

Read

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5, ESV)

Key line

Wisdom isn’t something you earn—it’s something you ask for.

One thing to notice

James doesn’t say, “If any of you lacks motivation.” Or “If any of you lacks talent.” It says wisdom—knowing what to do next.

And it says God gives it generously and without reproach. That means God isn’t like, “Seriously? You’re asking again?” He’s not roasting you for being stuck.

Sometimes wisdom comes as a clear idea. Sometimes it comes as calm. Sometimes it comes as remembering what you already know is true. And sometimes it comes through a trusted adult.

But the promise is this: you can ask.

One reflection question

What’s the one decision you’re avoiding because you’re scared of getting it wrong?

One tiny step (2 minutes)

Open your notes app and write:

  • “God, I need wisdom about: ______.”
  • “The next right step I can take today is: ______.”

Then do that step (keep it small—send the text, open the assignment, apologize, ask for help, make the plan).

Short prayer

God, I don’t want fear to lead my choices. You say You give wisdom generously, so I’m asking. Show me my next right step, and give me courage to take it. Amen.
